Impact of a Comprehensive Population Health Management Program on Health Care Costs

StayWell Research

StayWell study reveals that the most effective and comprehensive population health management (PHM) programs are capable of producing a financial return-on-investment (ROI) within 3 to 5 years after the initial program launch.

Authors of the study, Jessica Grossmeier, Ph.D., MPH; Erin Seaverson, MPH; David J. Mangen, Ph.D.; Steven Wright; Karl Dalal; Chris Phalen; Daniel Gold, Ph.D., have concluded that a PHM program can yield a positive return on investment after 2 years of wellness program and 1 year of integrated disease management program launch. Combined program results yield an integrated return-on-investment of $3 in savings for every dollar invested.

The study, “Impact of a Comprehensive Population Health Management Program on Health Care Costs,” was published in the June 2013 Journal of Occupational & Environmental Medicine and can be found at the JOEM website.
